40K Diabetes Grand Tournament, Sunday 20 November 10:00am
2000 points, 4 rounds, $20 entry fee

Treefort Games is organizing diabetes charity tournaments for both 40K and Fantasy the weekend before Thanksgiving. $10 of the $20 entry fee will be donated to the National Diabetes Association. This event is not officially sponsored by this organization.

The rest of the entry fees will be split up between the top 1/4 of players with a minimum of 3 prizes. So if there are 8 players $80 in store credit prizes will be given to 3 players ($40, $25, $15). If there are 16 players then 4 prizes will be given ($70, $40, $30, $20),etc and so on.

It has come to our attention that many of our regular customers, and some of our store owners, are afflicted by diabetes and since November is national diabetes month we thought it would be kind of cool to raise some money for diabetes research and host a signature event. We hope you'll help us support this effort, and have fun at a cool tournament.

SCORING:
Each player will accumulate points in battle, sprtsmanship, and artistry and final awards will be based on the total number of points amasses across these three criteria.
Max Battle Points is 12
Max Sportsmanship Points is 16
Max Artistry Points is 5+ 1 per tournament player

We're going to be keeping score in this event and awarding prizes, but we're hoping your real motivation in coming to the tournament is to get in 4 great 40K games.

The scoring system noted below can produce some surprising results. You get as many battle points for losing a closely fought and bloody battle as you do for tabling your opponent on turn 2, and the heavier weighting on sportsmanship and artistry means that it is entirely possible for a player to lose every battle and be an average opponent; but if they have a really cool army that everyone likes they can still come in first overall.

Battle Points:
2 battle points for winning the scenario per the stated Victory Conditions
1 battle point for losing the scenario (if neither player wins then both are considered to have lost)
+1 battle point for each player if BOTH players lose at least 50% of the army construction points value
-2 battle points for each player if NEITHER player loses 50% of their army construction points value

Note that you earn as many points for losing a close bloody battle as you do for winning a one-sided battle. Also note that if both players spendthe whole game dancing around and no one takes any casualties then both are going to lose points for being cowards! Lastly, also note that if you take a cheesy "points denial" kind of army where 85% of your points are in 4 models then you are unlikely to get the bonus point for both players losing 50%.

Sportsmanship Points:
Each player will force rank his opponents at the end of the event.

Your favorite opponent will be awarded 4 sportsmanship points.
Your second favorite opponent will be awarded 3 sportsmanship points.
Your third favorite opponent will be awarded 2 sportsmanship points.
Your fourth favorite opponent will be awarded 1 sportsmanship point.

Hmm....."fourth favorite"....what does that really mean.....?

Artistry Points:
For showing up with an army that is less than 50% painted you get 1 artistry point.
For an army that is more than 50% painted and based you get 2 artistry points.
For an army that is almost completely painted except for maybe 10 models you get 3 artistry points.
For an army that is fully painted and based - even if it doesn't look good - you get 5 artistry points.

At the end of round 2 every player will make note of which army they think is the "coolest army" and which they think is the "second coolest army". Players may not select their own army and the same army may not be entered for both votes.

Each vote for "coolest army" or "second coolest army" will earn 1 additional artistry point for that player.

Army Construction:
2000 points. Special characters are allowed. All models must be fully assembled but do not need to be painted (of course you're not going to get alot of painting and art points for an unpainted army!). Reasonable proxies are allowed, but should be shown and discussed with the organizer before the tournament. WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) models are defintiely preferred, but we also want to encourage imagination in army build.

No non-current codex units, characters, items, allies, etc. No mercenary or ally units. No out of date army lists like a stunties, etc. Just regular from the book army constructions.

Note, that some of the scenarios are going to encourage you to take unit leeaders and characters. That's on purpose. 6 mobs of 150 gretchin with no heroes just doesn't make for a very interesting army.

KNOW YOUR RULES! We expect you to know your army rules and bring them with you. If you're certain that your Chaos Monstrous Shananigans Gun is a strength 22, AP1 10" template heavy 6 weapon with a 120" range, but you just seem to have forgotten your specialcopy of White Dwarf that explains that - well it ain't gonna work.

We will be using the current 40K FAQ located at the address below (seriously that long thing is actually the site address!):

SCENARIOS:
All tables will be pre-set with terrain that may not be rearranged. If players have abilities that create terrain elements then the players should bring those elements with them (like creating a forest or minefield)

Expect some tables with terrain that fully blocks line of site as well as impassable terrain and huge buildings.

Battle 1: Cut off the Head.
Leader Point Victory Condition

Pitched Battle deployment style.  Game duration is 6 turns.  Roll off for deployment and  first  turn.

The winner of this scenario is the player who accumulatesthe most "leader count" points. You get 2 "leader count" points for each enemy unit leader or character who does NOT survive the battle (whether you kill them or they kill themselves somehow). You get 1 point for each of your own unit leaders or characters who does survive the battle. No one really cares about what happens to the normal rank and file troops.

Battle 2:  Destructive Force
Destroy Enemy Objectives Victory Conditions

Pitched Battle deployment style. Game duration is 6 turns.  Roll off for deployment and first turn.

Each player deploys 2 objectives in thier own deployment zone before other deployments.   Each objective must be at least 6" from any board edge andobjectives must be at least 18" apart.

The winner of the scenario is the player who destroys the most enemy objectives.  You destroy an enemy objective by starting your turn with a unit with a close combat attack in base contact with the enemy objective while not in close combat.

No unit may deep strike or otherwise enter the board or deploy within 12" of an enemy objective.  Scattered deployments that drift closer than 12" to an objective cause the dropping unit to be immediately destroyed with  no saves of any kind.

Tabling your opponent does not assure a victory if you run out of time to reach the objectives.

Battle 3:  Critical Defense

Objective Control Victory Conditions

Pitched Battle deployment style. Game duration is 6 turns.  The attacker goes first, but the initiative can be siezed.

Players roll off to decide who will be the defender.  The defender sets up 2 objectives in his  own deployment zone.  Objectives must be at least 6" from any board edge and at least 18" apart.  Defender choses board side and deploys his entire army first.  The attacker may not deep strike or otherwise enter the board or deploy within 12" of an objective.  Scattered deployments that drift closer than 12" to an objective cause the dropping unit to be immediately destroyed with no saves of any kind.

The attacker must control at least 1 objective at the end of the Defender's 6th turn.  An objective cannot be contested by a unit that is less than 1/3 the points value of an attacking unit.  (Sorry, you're lone IG trooper cannot contest an objective against 25 Obliterators!).  Models with any portion within 3" of the objective are counted for control purposes.  All models count for control purposes - even vehicles and fliers.

Tabling your opponent does not assure a victory if you run out of time to reach the objectives.

Battle 4:  Carnage
Victory Points Victory Conditions

Pitched Battle deployment style. Game duration is 6 turns. Roll off for deployment and first turn.

There is no other objective than to destroy the enemy force!  The winner must destroy at least 200 more army points in order to be declared the winner.
