Treefort 40K Campaign 2010 Basic Rules and Info

EVENTS

The Treefort Campaign will run from January 2010 to November 2010.  You can join at any time.  You do not need to make it to every battle (although those weak-kneed Xenos types seem unwilling to show their face for battle...).  The fate of the Ineptus Sector is in your hands...

Check the Treefort Forums for weekly battle information.

Background:

The Ineptoware Incursion, as it has become known, has been overcome and principle forces of the Imperium have been diverted to other areas. However, this sector among the border worlds remains open and clear of this particular malignity has become a focal point of interest for many.

The sector is rich with resources and includes several inhabited and habitable planets. It’s location outside of normal trade routes is the only element keeping it from explosive growth. Several races have been working at creating new normal routes into the sector, so far with only limited luck. It is only a matter of time though before serious interest finally succeeds and the sector begins to realize its potential.

3 major groups are vying for control of the sector and have sent troops into the area in an effort to secure it’s future. Obviously the Imperium is there as it always is. Adeptus Asartes elements as well as Inquisition and regimental forces all have a presence in the region. Also present are forces for a free humanity. Declared heretical by the Imperium, these forces like the Imperium fight Chaos and Xenos, but without specific allegiance to the Imperium. There are rogue Adeptus Asartes chapters, guard units, and even a few Inquisitorial units linked in a loose confederation to free the Ineptus sector from ALL external forces, including the Imperium. Lastly there are remaining forces of Chaos and other Xenos elements – Tau, Eldar, Ork, etc in the area eager the draw the newly found sector into their own areas of control.

The next few months will certainly be filled with unrest and may well decide the fate of the sector…

Campaign Objectives/Overview/Rules:

The campaign is fought as factions. Players will be ASSIGNED to a faction by the CM. Usually players will get to chose, but not always as the CM must balance the campaign with players. Players with 2 very different armies may sign up under 2 factions for campaign balance purposes. These players MUST have 2 separate armies. For instances you cannot play your red painted Space Marine army as both Imperium and Free Humanity faction armies, but if you have an Ork army and a Space Marine army that works fine. Each faction is seeking to conquer the Ineptus Sector.

New players may come in at any point but must have an army of at least 1000 points. All players participating in a battle must have required force elements to form a legal army. For instance, if 2 Space Marine players each bring a 1000 point force to battle against a Tyranid player, each Space Marine player must have the required troop units necessary for a separate 1000 point force. Units in 1 force may not be used or swapped to fill requirements in the other force’s core requirements.

Campaign costs & rewards:

The campaign entry cost is $25 and that gets you an embroidered Ineptus Campaign polo shirt with an Ineptus Campaign logo. There are no other entry costs for the campaign.  We won't be  asking for this entry until the shirts are actually available, which will probably be sometime in February.

Three times during the campaign (April, July & October) on Apocalypse battle day (first Saturday), bring your shirt to the store and we will embroider onto the shirt the planet names on which you have done battle.

The campaign will continue until Apocalypse Battle day in November which will be the last battles of the campaign. The campaign may end sooner if 1 faction “controls “ more than 2/3 of the planets in the sector. The campaign winner is the faction with the most hub points. Each hub is worth 1 point and you get an extra point for “controlling” a planet (more than 50% of hubs owned).

Obviously Apocalypse battles can have a huge impact on the campaign, so hope is never lost!

The faction that wins the campaign will have a plaque created in their honor at the end of the campaign listing the players and their battle honors.

Battle types:

· Meeting Engagement (neither side is attacking or defending). Typically this is a battle over a new site seeking to establish footholds, with neither side having a secure starting position. Sides are equal in strength. Max battle size is 2500 points. Meeting engagements are fought on planets with 1 or 0 occupied hubs. 1 hub is gained by the winner.

· Incursion (one side is seeking to establish a foothold on a planet with other faction controls). Sides are equal in strength. All objectives are on the defender ½ of board.. Max battle size is 2500 points. Incursions are fought on planets where 2 or more hubs are occupied. Winner gains a hub. Loser does not lose a hub unless there are no empty hubs available.

· Assault (one side attacks another side in somewhat hastily prepared positions). Typically this is an intra-planetary type battle, seeking a planetary advantage. No Apocalypse battles permitted. The attacker is allowed 10% more points. Defender gets at least 1 fortified but un-gunned position. All objectives are on defender ½ of board. Max battle size is 3000 points (no Apocalypse units). Assaults are fought on planets where both factions have a hub. Winner gains a hub at the expense of the loser.

· Raid (one side is attacking a weak position). Typically this is an intra-planetary type battle, seeking a planetary advantage. Attacker gets 500 more points. Max battle size is 2500 for attacker(s). Defender gets no reinforced positions. All objectives are in the defender’s deployment zone. Raids are fought on planets where the defender has a hub. If the defender loses, one hub becomes empty. The attacker does not gain a hub during a raid.

· Planetstrike. This is an attempt to take the majority control of a planet. In this scenario control of the planet is at stake. Minimum battle size is 2000 points. Max is 3500 points. Planetstrike battles are fought on planets where the defender controls the planet or is 1 hub away from controlling the planet. Attacker gains 51% of hubs on the planet if they win. Defender gains an empty hub (if one is available) if they win.

· Apocalypse. This is an attempt to take over the entire planet. Minimum battle size is 3000 points. Apocalypse units (Stompas, Titans, Baneblades, etc) are not permitted in battles where the defender has less than 4000 points. The defender is permitted 1 fortified position per 1000 points, and must take 1 position per 2000 points, but may take no free Planetstrike type guns. The attacker may “bid up” the battle points to the lesser of 500 points or 10% over the defender’s strength if the attacker brought more points with him that day. The defender will be required to add Planetstrike guns at a cost if the attacker “bids up” the battle. If planet is unoccupied neither side is declared attacker or defender and army sizes will be equal. Apocalypse battles are fought on any planet, but before Apocalypse battles may be declared the declaring faction must have at least 10 controlled hubs in the sector. Winner gains 4 hubs (3 on smaller worlds) and any other hubs are considered empty after the battle.

· Fleet Action. This means a Battlefleet Gothic battle(or similar). This type battle may be declared in addition to other battles but must be declared at last 4 weeks ahead of the battle date. 2 weeks prior to the battle date the CM must confirm availability of at least 2 player fleets for the battle to take place. Winner of a Fleet Action battle gains 2 hubs anywhere in the sector as a result of gaining temporary fleet supremacy.

The ATTACKER always places objectives prior to deployment. The DEFENDER always sets up first. The ATTACKER always goes first. The initiative may always be seized. Planetstrike & Apocalypse battles are fought per those rules.

Planets have 3, 5 or 7 planetary hubs to them. Factions gain or lose hubs through battle.

Factions declare battle 2 or 3 weeks ahead of the battle date.

Factions declare:

1) Type of battle and intent of battle (attack the enemy, consolidate current footholds, expand onto new planets, etc)

2) Preferred planets

3) Battle day

4) Preferred battle size.

All battles are fought starting at 1:00pm on either Saturday or Sunday. The CM will decide the week of the battle which planets are involved. Multiple battles may take place depending on the number of players present. The CM will decide actual battle sizes to best engage all players. For instance, the Imperial player may seek to expand the foothold they gained in week 1, but that may lead to an assault mission instead of a meeting engagement due to the presence of enemy on intended planets. The CM makes this call on the day of battle.

What this means is that factions will generally only nominate battle once a month. The first Saturday remains our Apocalypse battle day (starting February) and the other 2 weeks of the month the battle terms will be dictated by the other factions. Battles will be fought 3 or 4 weekends a month.

Introductory 3 weeks:

The first battles are fought over uninhabited or sparsely inhabited planets on the sector edge as Free Humanity and Xenos elements seek to establish footholds in the sector. The Imperium obviously seeks to prevent this. The Imperium faction starts with a hub on Ineptus Prime.

Mechanic:

Players show up on the announced battle day with armies of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and eachg additional increment of 500 points depending on how large a force each player owns. Players who are able to field a 2500 point army need to bring premade rosters of 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500. 2500 points is the largest battle to be fought during these weeks.

The CM (Campaign Master) aligns players according to faction to permit equitable battles. The overall goal will be to create as many single player on single player battles as possible, the exception being Apocalypse battles.

Faction Management:

Faction leadership is something each faction can elect/determine for themselves. There is no particular advantage or reward for being a faction leader. Faction leaders are generally the ones who approve new rank advances for other faction players and who declare battle types in advance. Faction leaders make sure battle honors and hub ownership changes are properly recorded. Faction leaders hold a loose association over their factions and may change, and may even change frequently. Faction leaders who don’t show up on battle day, will generally no longer be considered faction leaders.

Faction ranks are also something driven by each faction. The CM will validate all ranks and systems. So if you think your title will be God-Emperor of the Universe on week 1, then the CM will probably make your title something more like Under-Penal Corporal, and may limit the number of HQ choices available to you. Players should generally begin as a Boss, Captain, Junior Inquisitor, or similar title. There is no particular advantage or reward for rank advances, other than boasting rights and swagger credits.

Battle alliances will generally be determined by each faction after the CM has assigned battles and player factions.

Factions are highly encouraged to recruit new players and to schedule training sessions with new players as they accumulate enough forces to bring 1000 points of troops to the battlefield. As a general rule, factions that recruit new players will get to keep those players, although army lists and campaign balance may require the CM to make assignments.
